KUCHING: The Metrocity 2 Youth Night Market has been proposed as a new tourism destination to fully promote the area to both domestic and international tourists.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Sri Fadillah Yusof said the night market has become a daily attraction for visitors coming to Kuching in search of local delicacies.

He added with a larger new site and various facilities, it now has the potential to attract even more visitors.
“This night market is a popular attraction for tourists visiting Kuching, and I have suggested to the organisers to collaborate with the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, as well as the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, to market this place as a tourism hotspot in Kuching,” he said when officiating at the new site on Saturday.
Fadillah, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Petra Jaya assured that infrastructure improvements will continue to be made to ensure visitors’ comfort and safety.
“Firstly, a surau (prayer room) will be built. Secondly, the market area will be fenced, and thirdly, the shop structures will be standardised to accommodate all weather conditions, whether rain or shine.
“This will provide a comfortable environment for traders to conduct their business and allow visitors to enjoy their time here,” he added.
However, Fadillah mentioned that he and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, are still searching for a permanent site, as the current new market location is only a rental space for 10 years.
