BINTULU: The Methodist Iban Church in Pasar Bintulu is set to undergo upgrading works, which will include repairs to the leaking ceiling, installation of new lighting, and repainting of the interior to ensure the safety and comfort of its congregation.
Tanjong Batu assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, stated that the works would be carried out using funds allocated under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the constituency.
“The church has long voiced concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of its ceiling.
“Following several discussions, I proposed a joint site visit with the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and requested that a design plan and cost estimate be prepared promptly,” he said.
Pang made the remarks after conducting a site visit with his team, the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), and representatives from the Methodist Iban Church in Pasar Bintulu to assess the current condition of the building.
He added that this initiative reflected a commitment to ensuring that places of worship within Tanjong Batu remained safe, comfortable and conducive to religious and community activities.
Pang also shared that previous RTP allocations had been utilised to improve various facilities, and construct a new parking area at the church to provide more space for activities, particularly those involving youth programmes.
He further encouraged the church to continue organising youth development programmes that fostered positive values and help shape the younger generation towards a brighter future.
He concluded by emphasising the importance of supporting the noble efforts of religious institutions in building a harmonious, united and resilient community.
