SPECIAL students in Meradong deserve to have proper special education but to achieve this, it is important to attend to the issue of shortage of trained teachers.
Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing (GPS-Meradong) brought up the matter when debating in support to the motion of appreciation to TYT’s opening address yesterday.
“I wish to take this opportunity to inform the authority concerned on the shortage of trained teachers for special education classes at SMK Bandar Bintangor, Meradong.
“While I am trying my best to assist in providing a better and more conducive environment for these special students by way of providing necessary infrastructure, it is very frustrating to note that we are lacking properly trained teachers to provide special education to these less fortunate children.
“There are 29 students in the school and if according to the Education Ministry’s standard, we should have four classrooms with each class having six to eight students and total number of seven teachers. However, the ministry only approved three classrooms.
“At the moment, there are only five teachers and out of the five, only two are trained for special education. Three ordinary teachers were assigned to assist the special education classes and this is just not fair to them as they are not trained to teach and guide these special students, even though they are now undergoing trainings and attending workshops,” he told the August House.
