KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members have been urged to be more active on social media so that they are ‘ready to fight’.

Its senior vice president Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this is because social media has become the main platform in the dissemination of information and propaganda where it can influence the people’s perception.

“The role of social media is becoming increasingly important as the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic, where large rallies and gatherings are no longer encouraged to be held in order to curb the spread of the virus.

“At the same time, we also need to act fast to counter every attack on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and PBB on social media,” he said at the PBB Southern Zone mini convention at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sunday (Oct 25).

Fadillah, who is also GPS parliamentary chief whip, said such attacks on social media must be countered and cannot be allowed to further spread.

“We must all remember that it was the perception war on social media that led to Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 14th general election in 2018,” he said.

Fadillah urged PBB members and GPS leaders at all levels to be more active on social media to answer whatever issues are raised and convey the right message to the people.
