KUCHING: The Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development (M-FICORD) welcomed a courtesy visit from the United States Embassy in Malaysia led by its Agricultural Diplomats Timothy Harrison and Katherine E. McBride.

The delegation was received by M-FICORD Deputy Permanent Secretary, Sayed Ismail Nasiruddin Wan Hashim on Thursday to explore potential cooperation between the United States and Sarawak, particularly in the agricultural sector.

The meeting also addressed key issues related to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which has significant implications for Sarawak’s palm oil industry.

Also in attendance were principal assistant secretary of the Livestock & Fisheries Section Alice Loni and principal assistant secretary of the Agro-Commodity Section Tsong Chow Choon.

The discussion underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen international collaboration in agriculture and address global regulatory challenges impacting Sarawak’s key commodities.
