KUCHING: A total of 35 talented orchestra members of Persatuan Wind Orkestra Kuching participated in its second “Meet the Orchestra” event held at Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tun Abdul Razak (IPGKTAR) last Wednesday night.
The event, which drew over 700 attendees, was a collaboration with IPGKTAR, and supported by the Sarawak Arts Council.
The musical extravaganza was attended by enthusiastic IPGKTAR students, showcasing the undeniable power of music in fostering cultural appreciation and unity within the community.
“At the heart of the “Meet the Orchestra” initiative is a mission to elevate youth music engagement and offer them a unique opportunity to explore the world of orchestral music, which is often a rarity in Sarawak.
“Beyond its musical aspects, this initiative also serves as a catalyst for youth involvement, personal development, and vital support for musicians navigating the ongoing challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the association said in a statement today.
The orchestra comprised two main sessions namely the “Instruments Introduction,” and the second session, “Orchestra Showcase,” which took attendees on a mesmerising journey through the realms of classical pieces and famous tunes, including “Holberg Suite”, “Country Roads,” “Detective Conan,” and “Gurenge” from Demon Slayer, among others.
The orchestra’s performance was met with resounding applause and a standing ovation.
