MIRI: Police here arrested a private mechanic for allegedly stealing a damaged Perodua Kancil at Taman Tunku Bypass traffic light on Sept 15.

Earlier, the police received a report from the complainant claiming that his damaged vehicle parked by the roadside had gone missing.

In less than 24 hours after the report was lodged, police nabbed the 30-year-old suspect around 11pm on Thursday and recovered the vehicle.

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect had several past records including car theft and burglary.

With this arrest, he reminded the public to not leave their damaged vehicle by the roadside as it gives the opportunity for a crime to take place.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A (1) of the Penal Code.
