MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) together with Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) will be inspecting wet markets in the city to ensure that there would no exotic meats on sale following the novel coronavirus outbreak from Wuhan, China.
“We will work closely with corporation to inspect wet markets around the city for the sale of exotic meats,” said Mayor Adam Yii.
The novel coronavirus is believed to have originated from exotic meats such as bats and snakes.
“This issue (the outbreak) is a serious matter and the council will take immediate action to ensure that the virus is contained and not spread here,” said Yii.
He was met yesterday after chairing a full council meeting.
Yii added that the council would work closely with SFC’s wildlife unit to enforce the inspection following the outbreak, to ensure that traders comply with the regulations set.
