KUCHING: Decisive action will be taken against anyone who carry out illegal extensions within the jurisdiction of Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the illegal extenstion will not just block the drainage system, it will also affect the safety of the people living in the area under MBKS.
“So, this year, we will look into this matter to see what action to take.
“Our possible approach is to require those who carried out an illegal extension to submit their plans.
“These plans must then comply with the Sarawak Building Ordinance 1994 and bylaws,” he said when met by reporters during the welcoming lion dance and management meeting at MBKS here today.
Despite it being the last solution, Wee asserted that MBKS would not attempt to revoke the Occupation Permit (OP) as it would affect several matters.
“The related parties have to reapply and resubmit to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
“After that, they will need to go through the endorsement process again, repeating the entire procedure.
“There is a chance that their application may not be approved. If they lost the OP the bank will not grant them the loan, and they will be unable to sell their property,” he added.
Wee also hoped everyone follows the guildelines that were implemented by MBKS.
“Of course, everyone wants to expand their property, but it is important to consider the consequences and the impact it may have on the residents.
“To be fair to them, if they plan any changes, let us know, and we will help you do it the right way,” he said.
