KUCHING: In light of the Covid-19 outbreak in the state, Kuching City South Council (MBKS) has announced that all council functions and activities involving more than 50 people will be cancelled until further notice.
Its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said permits for gatherings in Kuching South areas would not be considered until further notice.
“For approved functions and activities, we advise them to postpone to a later date if the programme involved more than 50 persons,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He also said the MBKS Resource Centre, Pictorial Gallery, swimming pool, MBKS Squash Court, MBKS Indoor Stadium, Jubilee Ground, Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field and MBKS Sports Village would also be closed effective today (March 17) until further notice.
“Residents are advised to look after themselves and their families and to keep them safe by regularly paying utmost attention to their personal hygiene and the surrounding’s cleanliness,” he said.
He added that all parties are urged to be well-prepared to fight the pandemic.
Earlier, Wee went to the hawker centres to mark the social distancing seating.
“Patrons are encouraged to use the seats without the red or blue tape when dining in groups or sharing tables with other patrons,” he said.
