KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) is planning to undertake an Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Jakarta and the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) to promote construction-related products and services from Dec 18-21, 2023.
Chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said with the cooperation of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), the EAM is expected to be a success.
“I am confident that this collaboration between Matrade and KADIN will benefit more entrepreneurs and companies from both countries,” he said in a statement today, adding that Malaysian companies can boost trade with Indonesia through infrastructure development activities, especially in the nation’s new capital, IKN.
He noted that Malaysian companies’ skills and expertise in handling local and international construction and engineering projects would be an advantage in collaborations with Indonesian industry players.
Potential development projects to be explored include construction, tolled highways, engineering services, power stations, telecommunications, hospitals, transport and logistics services and information technology.
According to Reezal Merican, Matrade and KADIN will be signing a memorandum of understanding to increase trade between Malaysia and Indonesia through the exploration of various new areas, especially those related to digital and technology.
“This includes setting up a digital platform to ease trade access and expedite business validation with the help of artificial intelligence (AI),” he said.
Reezal Merican also proposed the establishment of a special task force between Matrade and KADIN to explore cooperation through the existing Matrade Digital Trade Platform to promote the export of Malaysian and Indonesian goods.
The team will also look into a collective collaboration between the two agencies via various platforms to boost market access for exports outside of Asean, he added. – BERNAMA
