KUCHING: The first phase of the Masjid Darul Hana landscape development project is expected to be completed sometime in May.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the first phase, which involved 9.7 acres of land, was currently at 77 per cent completion.

“The phase, which is known as Taman Islam, includes the construction of five water features (fountains), carpark, parking bays for buses, and gazebos.

“The carpark is already completed while the construction of five water features is currently ongoing.

“Once completed, it will also be equipped with smart facilities such as closed circuit televisions and street lightings.

“By then, it will be the first big scale Taman Islam in Sarawak,” he said when attending a briefing on the proposed landscape development at Masjid Darul Hana here yesterday.

Abdul Rahman said the second phase, expected to start next year, would be to construct an open plaza involving 6.4 acres of land, whereby two land lots would be acquired in early 2021.

“The third phase will be the construction of a Malay Heritage Museum while the fourth phase will be the construction of a smart primary school whereby SK Pulo will be transferred to the new school.

“As stated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the vicinity (Darul Hana area) will become a smart town because Kuching is transforming into a smart city.

“Darul Hana area will become the pioneer of smart living when additional smart facilities are included to the mosque,” he said.
