KUCHING: Sri Aman Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Masir Kujat has announced that he has quit Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), with immediate effect, citing the country’s political instability as one of the reasons for the decision.
Masir, who was also a Presidential Council Member in PSB, in a press statement today, said the decision was made after consulting with his constituents.
He said the political instability has damaged the country’s economy, development progress and affected the people’s well-being.
“I believe this is the best move and time for us to put aside politics and focus on stabilising the country.
“Our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is committed to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of the people, and doing his best to assist the people in the country during this tough time.
“Thus, I am giving my full support to the prime minister,” he said.
However, he did not mention his plan to return to Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS). He added that he is now an independent (partyless) MP, supporting the current government.
Masir quit PRS and joined PSB in March 2019, claiming that he wanted to be in a party that could unite all races in Sarawak.
The former Deputy Home Minister said he was confident that PSB was the best party and platform for him to fight for the Dayak community in Sarawak.
