BAU: The two-week campaign period for the 15th general election (GE15) will be fully utilised by Mas Gading incumbent, Mordi Bimol to explain the truth to the rakyat regarding his performance during his one-term tenure as the people’s representative in the constituency.

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate pledged to explain to the Mas Gading constituents on the issues he had faced while serving as Mas Gading MP.

“I want to explain to them about my health condition which has been affecting me and also about the short-lived Pakatan Harapan (PH) ruling for 22 months which has caused an impact to the allocation provided,” he said when met by the media after the announcement of the candidates for Mas Gading parliamentary seat at Bau Civic Centre, yesterday (Nov 5).

When asked about campaigns, Mordi said campaigning would start on Saturday evening (Nov 5) by visiting each village and delivering three ‘ceramahs’ (talks) in one night alongside flyers.

On being engaged in a three-cornered fight with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Lidang Disen and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate Sim Min Leong, he said he sees no problem with it.

“I’m open to it. Malaysia is a democratic country after all.

“I had never objected nor do I criticise, be it a three-cornered fight or a straight fight between the candidates. I have no problem with that,” he said.

According to him, he is already familiar with Lidang and only met Sim for the first time but described the latter as a good person.

In the last general election, Mordi won the Mas Gading seat in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Anthony Nogeh with a majority of 3,024 votes.

It is also a Bidayuh majority area with a total of 47,171 voters.
