KUCHING: Mary Bada aims to qualify for the SEA Games after breaking the women’s discus throw record and winning a gold medal.
She described her victory in the women’s discus as “unexpected”.
Mary threw an impressive 10.66m, surpassing fellow Sarawakian Cordiria Nyoted, who set a record of 9.36m in 2018.
“I am happy, and I did not expect to break the record and win gold,” said the para athlete from Serian.
Mary, 40, shared that this was her first time participating in the Para (Sukma) Malaysia Games.
She shared that she plans to break more records and win gold in both the javelin and shot put events.
“My goal is to win gold medals in all three events,” she stated.
When asked how she would use the RM15,000 incentive money, Mary said she plans to support her children, who are also persons with disabilities (PWD), in their education.
