SIBU: A married youth was handed a total of 20 years’ jail and two strokes of the cane for raping his employer’s underage daughter.

Prem Anthony, 21, from Bawang Assan, maintained his plea of guilt at the Sessions Court here Tuesday (April 8).
Judge Musyiri Peet sentenced Prem to 10 years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane on each of the two charges made against him.

However, he ordered the imprisonment term to run concurrently.

On the first count Prem had raped the victim, aged 15 years and 11 months, in a house at Kapor Road past midnight on Feb 13.

He also raped her on Feb 17 at about 2.45 pm, at the same place.

The offence framed under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and caning, if convicted.

The crime came to light early on Mar 31 when the victim’s father received a message from Prem, who is his worker, that he intended to resign from his job.

The girl’s father then called Prem’s wife to inquire the reason for her husband’s resignation, only to be told that her husband was a relationship with his daughter.

Subsequently, he confronted his daughter who admitted that she has been in a relationship with Prem since February this year.

A police report was subsequently lodged.

On the same day at about 1.30 pm, police arrested Prem at Tunku Abdul Rahman Road.
Prem, who had no legal representation, pleaded for leniency prior to sentencing.
