MIRI: Police are on the hunt for a local man suspected of committing an armed robbery at a premises near Ngu’s junction, Jalan Miri-Bintulu on Sunday (Dec 8).

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said police received a report from a woman on the same day.

“The victim was at the cashier counter when she was approached by the suspect, who was armed with a machete and demanded cash from her.

“The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash from the register to the suspect, who then fled the scene without causing any physical harm,” he said in a statement.

During the incident, a CCTV camera captured the suspect’s face and he has been identified as a 31-year-old local man.

He added that efforts are underway to locate and arrest the suspect.

Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code.
