Man suffers serious burns in mishap

KUCHING: A man who intended to steal power cables from the high power lines at Kampung Pasir Pandak suffered 80 per cent burn on his body after he was electrocuted.

The incident occurred at about 12.30 pm when the 30-year-old man from Kpg Tanjung and an accomplice climbed a 20-metre high power posts to steal the cables.

When the man was electrocuted he was left dangling as firemen rushed to his aid.

After the power was shut down, firemen climbed the power posts to bring him down and the man was taken to Sarawak General Hospital in critical condition. Police also seized a hammer, spanner, torchlight, mobile phone and wallet belonging to the man.
