KUCHING: A 27-year-old man was fined RM2,500, in default one month’s imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court on Friday (Oct 21) for making threats.
The accused, Daniel Minkil, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge that was read before judge Zubaidah Sharkawi.
According to the case brief, the accused allegedly threatened to damage the victim’s reputation at a house in Sunny Hill here around 1.03am on Oct 10, 2020.
He is charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of seven years or a fine or both.
The court was told that when the victim was at home, he received a threatening text via the Michat app from a man known as Mr Dole.
If he refused to meet demands, the accused threatened the victim that he would viral a video of the victim kissing his male companion at an entertainment centre.
The victim then handed over money totalling RM50 in an envelope to the accused. On Oct 10, 2020, at around 9.54am, the accused then asked for RM300.
This prompted the victim to lodge a police report.
Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Illin prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
