KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here today imposed a six-month prison sentence on a local man for threatening to kill his stepbrother earlier this month.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi meted out the sentence on Mohamad Fadli Taib, 28, from Kampung Lemang Pek after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, he committed the offence in a rented house in Taman Matang Jaya, at around 8.08 pm on Sept 2.

Based on the case’s facts, during the incident, while the complainant was at his family’s rented house, his stepbrother suddenly became aggressive and made threats to kill the complainant.

Furthermore, the accused also threatened to strike the complainant’s head and that of their parents if he was not given the money he demanded.

Concerned for the safety of himself and his family members, the complainant reported the incident to the police for further action.

The investigation revealed that the accused was the complainant’s stepbrother, and the outburst was allegedly triggered because the complainant refused to provide money that was believed to be intended for purchasing drugs.
