KUCHING: A 30-year-old man was sentenced to nine months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here for abusing syabu drugs in October last year.
Arif Firdaus from Kajang, Selangor, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to the charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
If convicted, he can be fined RM5,000 or sentenced to prison for a term of up to two years, and be placed under police supervision for a period up to three years.
According to the charge sheet, he was charged with abusing methamphetamine and amphetamine type drugs at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) office, at around 12.45pm on Oct 30, 2024.
Ling ordered Arif to serve his term effective Jan 7, and be placed under police supervision for three years after serving his time.
Based on the facts of the case, Arif’s initial urine test was found positive for drugs while detained at Kuching NCID office.
Later, the urine sample was taken to Sarawak General Hospital’s Pathology Department, and results confirmed that Arif tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while the man was unrepresented by counsel.
