KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to 12 months in prison for slapping his former wife on the cheek.
The incident occurred when the man, who was hanging out at his former wife’s house until 2 am, was dissatisfied with not being entertained by his ex-wife and child.
Hillarry Eteli, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
He was charged with intentionally causing injury and pain to his 44-year-old ex-wife at a house in Kampung Tabuan Hilir, at around 2.40 am, July 29, 2022.
Based on the case facts, Hillarry went to the complainant’s house to hang out but was later told to go home by the complainant.
Later, he scolded the complainant and their daughter by using abusive language before slapping the complainant, causing facial pain.
Fearing for her safety, the complainant filed a police report, which led to the man’s arrest on Aug 22, 2022.
Investigation found that the man had slapped the complainant, which was witnessed by their own child at their home.
