KUCHING: Marine police arrested a man for modifying a commercial vehicle and carrying controlled items without permits.

The Marine Police Region 5 stopped a lorry trailer at Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha during an operations on Dec 13.

They inspected the vehicle and found a modified 1,000-litre fuel tank with diesel in it.

The driver was detained for committing two offences, one under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possessing, storing and carrying controlled goods without a permit, a licence or a special permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, and two, under the Road Transport Act 1987 for modifying the structure and equipment of commercial vehicles without the approval of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) director general.

Marine police seized the vehicle and detained the suspect.
