Man held for allegedly beating wife

MIRI: An air-conditioning technician was arrested on Tuesday (Dec 29) for allegedly beating his wife in their house at Wah Sing Garden, off Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

A friend of his was also arrested for taking part in the alleged assault.  

Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, the suspect, 30, and his friend, were detained around 3.35pm and 4pm respectively by a team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after the suspect’s wife lodged a report on the alleged incident.

“The duo was picked up from an electrical appliance shop in Morsjaya Commercial centre to assist police investigation into the case under Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act,” he said.

In the incident which allegedly occurred on December 27 (Sunday) at about 12.30am, the woman, 27, was punched and slapped by her husband.

As a result, she sustained bruises on her left eye.

It was said that her husband also brought his friend to the house to assault his wife.

The case is also being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
