Man gets eight years, caned for robbery

MIRI: A man was sentenced to eight years jail and ordered to be given five strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to robbing a woman on April 16.

Syvester Ason Endau, 22, of RPR Batu 6 here, admitted to robbing a 42-year-old woman of RM24, two mobile phones, her MyKad and driving licence in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pujut Corner at 12.02pm on April 16. Total loss is estimated at RM1,500.

He was arrested less than 24 hours after the crime was committed.

Syvester was charged under section 392 of the Penal Code for which the offence carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine or whipping upon conviction.

He was unrepresented in court yesterday.

Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos ordered Syvester to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
