KAPIT: A local man reported missing after entering a forest near Camp Suau, Baleh on Jan 4, has been found safe yesterday (Jan 8) at a longhouse about 20km from his camp yesterday (Jan 8).
Henry Laing Ngau, 38, was discovered with minor injuries at Rh Kancin, Sungai Stapang after being lost in the forest for five days.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that according to the longhouse folk, the man arrived at their longhouse around 3 pm.
Rescuers were informed of Henry’s whereabouts around 4.36 pm and headed to the location via logging road, which took about an hour.
“According to Henry, he followed a small stream and the banks of Stapang Gaat downstream until he reached Rh Kancin.
“At 5.55 pm, the rescue team escorted him back to his camp and arrived safely at 6.51 pm. Henry was later handed over to the police and transported to Kapit Hospital for a medical check-up and treatment,” the department said.
Yesterday, the search and rescue (SAR) team managed to find several leads during the search, including the victim’s underwear at 10.45 am and footprints at 2.30 pm.
The search was officially called off at 7.20 pm.
The five-day operation involved personnel from Kapit fire and rescue station, Bomba K9 unit, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), camp workers and the victim’s family.
