KANOWIT: A man reported missing after attempting to swim across a river near Rh Manggin, Nanga Buan, Ngemah here, was found drowned on Tuesday (Jan 14).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as 25-year-old Mohamad Hamizan Reduan, was discovered during the sixth dive by the Bomba diving team at 11.34am.

The body was recovered about 3m from where he was last seen, and it was handed over to the police for further action.

Following the discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off at 12.10pm.

On Monday (Jan 13), Hamizan, who was employed as an overhead electric pole worker, was reportedly on his way back to his rental house for lunch, located on the opposite side of the river.

He entered the river during high tide and disappeared when he reached the middle of the waterway.

Firefighters from Kanowit station were promptly dispatched to the scene, about 45km away, to commence the SAR operation.
