Man fined RM1,800 for punching girlfriend who wanted to break up

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here fined a man RM1,800, in default two months in prison, for punching his girlfriend after she told him that she wanted to end their relationship.

Benjamin Lim, 35, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries up to one year imprisonment or up to RM2,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

He committed the offence at a rented house in Lorong Desa Wira, Batu Kawa, at around 1.15am on Jan 10.

According to the facts of the case, the couple had an argument after the 34-year-old victim requested to end the relationship.

During the altercation, Benjamin punched the victim on the left side of her head and face.

The victim sought medical treatment for her injuries and a subsequent medical report confirmed that she sustained bruises on her head and left cheek.

She also filed a police report, leading to Benjamin’s arrest on the same day at around 5pm.

Insp Ammarsoffi Yusoff prosecuted the case while Benjamin was not represented by legal counsel.
