Man fined RM16K for damaging five cars

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM16,000 in default 46 months in prison for damaging five cars using flower pots in a neighbourhood at Jalan Cenderawasih here.

Mohammed Syukur Ramli, 45, pleaded guilty before two different Magistrates on five counts under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

According to the charges, he deliberately damaged the windscreens of five cars belonging to five different victims, causing losses amounting to RM4,340 between 2 am and 6 am on Jan 15.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan meted out a RM9,000 fine in default 26 months in prison for three counts, while Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi handed down a RM7,000 fine in default 20 months in prison for the other two counts.

Based on the case facts, at around 5 am on Jan 15, a female teacher found her vehicle, a Toyota Veloz, with damaged windscreens on the front and rear part of the car.

A police report was filed and further investigation led to the arrest of Syukur on the same day at Kampung Semerah Padi.

Investigations uncovered CCTV footage showing the man damaging the vehicles, two compact cars, two MPVs, and a sedan, using flower pots. Syukur was seen to be in a state of delusion and anger when committing the said act.

The prosecution was handled by prosecuting officer ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the case was investigated by investigating officer Insp Logeswara Tharumalay@Krishnan.
