PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will host the Commonwealth Youth Dialogue Conference titled Youth Summit on International Peace and Security and Building Community Resilience from the Ground Up in Kuala Lumpur from April 2 to April 5.

Organised by the Foreign Ministry in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Unit and the Royal Commonwealth Society, the event will be officiated by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

Wisma Putra, in a statement today said the overarching theme of the conference was the prevention of violent extremism with a central focus on youths.

It said the conference would be attended by 60 participants comprising youths from Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka and featured local and international speakers.

Among the core activities during the conference are interactive workshops on community cohesion, leadership and preventing violent extremism.

Participants will also take part in a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) simulation where they were expected to debate on issues regarding international peace and security.

“Being selected as the host for this conference is a testimony that Malaysia’s contribution to the global fight against terrorism and the threats of terrorism is recognised not only in the Commonwealth but globally,” it added. – Bernama
