KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Standard MS2530:2022 (MSPO 2.0) officially comes into effect today, introducing stricter guidelines for sustainability, traceability, and ethical practices in palm oil production.

In a statement today, MSPO said that MSPO 2.0 improves upon the original MSPO 2013 Standard by adopting stricter and more comprehensive requirements, aligning with current global standards and expectations for environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance practices (ESG).

“Since its introduction in 2013, the mandatory MSPO certification has been a cornerstone of Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability and transparency.

“MSPO certification audits are carried out by independent, third-party accredited certification bodies, ensuring the highest standards of integrity and credibility,” MSPO said.

It added that MSPO 2.0 builds on this foundation with enhanced sustainability measures to maintain Malaysia’s leadership in responsibly managed palm oil.

“Comprehensive traceability mechanisms ensure supply chain transparency, while the inclusion of mandatory dealer certification extends sustainability requirements across all levels of the supply chain,” said MSPO.
