PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has formalised a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) of the People’s Republic of China.

Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the MoU reinforces cultural collaboration under the Framework of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia.

“The agreement is aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of cultural heritage conservation, protection and preservation, including underwater cultural assets,’ he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The MoU exchange was jointly officiated by Tiong and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.

It was witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Chinese President, Xi Jinping, during the latter’s state visit to Malaysia, which took place from April 15 to 17.

In addition to the cultural MoU, Tiong said Tourism Malaysia also concluded two more agreements focused on tourism and media collaboration with China’s Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group (CMG).

The exchange involving CMG was officiated by Tiong alongside CMG President and Editor-in-Chief, Shen Haixiong.

“These agreements are designed to boost tourism promotion efforts through strategic media campaigns, information exchange and high-level engagements.

“By working together with Chinese media partners, we aim to raise Malaysia’s profile and attract more Chinese tourists,” he added.
