KUCHING: There is no Proclamation for Malays in Sarawak.
According to Sarawak Islamic Party (PAS) Commissioner Jofri Jaraiee, the recent proclamation for Malays by his party does not apply to Sarawak, given that the state has an inclusive society consisting of various races and religions.
“There is no proclamation for Malays in Sarawak because we are open. PAS Sarawak is different from Peninsular Malaysia due to our diverse community,” Jofri said during the PAS Sarawak open house for Hari Raya Aidilfitri held yesterday.
Jaraiee clarified that their position does not contradict the views of PAS in Peninsular Malaysia but reflects the need to consider the suitability of the state’s context.
“We have discussed this matter, and they understand that we cannot follow Peninsular Malaysia because we must adopt an approach that suits Sarawak,” Jofri added.
Recently, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called upon all political parties, particularly those with Malay members, to support and sign the Malay Land Proclamation, aimed at fostering unity among Malays across political lines.
