SERIAN: The 15th edition of “Malam Titian Muhibbah” made its debut in Serian last night (Oct 7), marking a significant occasion where strong collaboration between two nations was celebrated.
This annual event, spearheaded by the Tebedu District Office and Entikong Subdistrict of West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, showcased the vibrant beauty and rich cultural heritage of local communities through an array of artistic and sports activities.
Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada expressed his enthusiasm for such cultural programmes, emphasising their potential for significant impact.
“The promotion of such cultural programmes is highly encouraged as it aligns with efforts to boost the tourism sector and showcase Sarawak’s artistic and cultural institutions, especially in the Serian Division and Tebedu District.
“It also contributes to the goal of making Tebedu District and the Serian Division as a whole a prominent tourist destination,” he said.
He said this when officiating at Malam Titian Muhibbah at the Serian Convention Centre here last night (Oct 7).
He asserted that culture plays a pivotal role in determining a nation’s success, as history has demonstrated that civilised societies often thrive.
“The diversity of cultures allows us to learn the philosophies of different societies and, in turn, fosters closer relationships among us.
“The spirit of mutual respect and understanding among different cultures, especially among our younger generations, must be preserved and nurtured,” he added.
In light of this, he called upon community leaders, department heads, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the constituency to continue strengthening and preserving the arts, culture, and national heritage.
“These treasures are invaluable and must be passed down to future generations, ensuring they do not fade with time while serving as catalysts for tourism and economic growth,” he said.
Also present were Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Mona Octavia Sulai Albans Meling; Serian Division Acting Resident Abdul Khalid Manap; Tebedu District Officer Joseph Liaw; and Consulate General to the Republic of Indonesia Raden Sigit Witjaksono.
