SIBU: The ‘Creative Plant-Based Feast’ Vegetarian Cooking Contest, organised by the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) Buddhist Youth, is hailed as a meaningful and important event, especially for students.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, emphasised the significance of such activities in university life.
“University life is the best time for students to be active and gain valuable skills for their future careers. These experiences will enhance their resumes and make them more competitive in the job market,” he said during the closing ceremony held at the UTS campus on Friday.
His speech was read by Cr Kevin Kor Jie.
“Creativity is vital in every aspect of life. It allows us to approach problems from different angles, leading to innovative solutions. This problem-solving ability is crucial in our fast-paced world and can drive economic growth,” he added.
“In business, creative thinking can lead to groundbreaking products, services, and strategies. Similarly, in vegetarian cooking, creativity can elevate dishes and make them more appealing. By experimenting with different flavors and ingredients, we can create delicious and healthy plant-based meals.”
Tiang hoped that the event would become an annual affair, raising awareness about plant-based foods and inspiring more people to adopt healthier dietary choices.
