MUKAH: Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib urged and hoped that members of Dayak community would always maintain harmony and unity among themselves as well as with other communities at all times.
She commended the collaboration and cooperation spirit among the Dayak community which had led to harmony and mutual tolerance among community members.
Hanifah said this when speaking at the pre-Gawai Dayak dinner also known as “Mantar Gawai Dayak” 2019 organised by Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Mukah Branch at Kingwood Resort here Saturday night.
At the event, she also donated RM5,000 to SDNU Mukah as expenses for organising the ceremony.

Earlier SDNU Mukah Branch chairman Francis Atan informed that SDNU Mukah planned to build a Rumah Dayak Mukah costing around RM5 million at Simpang Empat near Pehin Mukah Building for use by the Dayak community.
He said with the existence of the building, the Dayak community in Mukah could be more united.
Starting from now SDNU Mukah branch will start its efforts to raise funds for the planned Rumah Dayak Mukah.
In addition, SDNU Mukah branch also requested that the SDNU Cemetery to be established as a common facility for the local Dayak community as a Dayak cemetery is located in the middle of the journey from Mukah to Selangau.
Francis also suggested that the appointment of community leaders such as Temenggong and Pemanca posts should be appointed from the Dayak community apart from those appointed from other communities.
Those present at the event were entertained by popular Iban artiste Winnie Albert. Highlighting the event was the Kumang Gawai SDNU Mukah beauty pageant. Other events included lucky draws and Betabuh (playing local musical instruments) contest.
