KUCHING: The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) on Thursday (June 20) announced the organisation of the Maal Hijrah Festival 1446H/2024 (FMH 1446H/2024), scheduled to take place from July 12 to 14, at the Sarawak State Jamek Mosque.
LAKMNS chief executive officer Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said the festival is one of LAKMNS’ initiatives to enhance the celebration of the Islamic New Year.
“The organisation of this festival is based on several objectives, including serving as a platform for the dissemination of knowledge about the Islamic New Year.”
He said this during a press conference at the LAKMNS Gallery Baitul Makmur II here.
“The festival also aims to revitalise the mosque as a one-stop centre for community activities and promote a healthy lifestyle based on religious values through programmes focusing on spirituality, family, sports and others.”
Also featured at the festival will be the Jualan Rahmah on July 13 and 14 in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
He said the festival is also a platform for unity as it welcomes participation from diverse communities of different ethnicities and religions.
According to Abdul Wahab, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to attend the closing ceremony of the festival on July 14.
Activities planned include the Night of Love for the Prophet, Cycling Expedition, Hijrah Run, Career and Education Exhibition, and various competitions such as badminton, tenpin bowling, e-Sports, and more.
Additionally, LAKMNS will offer special prizes to visitors through lucky draws.
Abdul Wahab also announced the sponsors, including Lubuk Tiara Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Plantation Berhad, and Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) as diamond sponsors, with Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd, Bmasj Timber Sdn Bhd, and Mabe Properties Sdn Bhd as platinum sponsors.
The official media partners are Internet Radio Islamic Sarawak (IRIS) and Suara Sarawak newspaper. LAKMNS also introduced the official festival portal at fmhlakmns.com.
Also present at the press conference were LAKMNS deputy chief executive officer Mohamad Feisal Said, LAKMNS officers, and representatives of the festival’s sponsors.
