LUNDU: Infrastructure development is crucial for Lundu to move forward, especially when border movements at the Biawak Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) are increasing.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang stressed that Lundu would need a township, equipped with a recreational centre and cultural centre, among others.

“The majority of folk in Lundu are Bidayuh, Iban and Malay.

“Developing a township would be of great importance to them,” he said.

Billy was officiating at the N1 Opar Mini Lab Greater Kuching Coordinated Agency (GKDA) at SALCRA Bajo Training Centre here on Thursday (Feb 16).

He also commented on the development of Nusantara, the future capital of Indonesia, stressing that infrastructure in Lundu must be upgraded if Lundu were to be compared to Nusantara.

“Especially the ICQS Complex in Biawak…facility wise, also needs improving to accommodate the growing number of people coming in and going out.

“Nusantara would be advanced and to be on par with Nusantara, we need to be prepared,” he said.

Meanwhile, Billy also pointed out that having a landport was important for food security.

“We need to be ready to avoid competition in the future or else we will be left behind.”
