SIBU: Bawang Assan SUPP chairman Councillor Kelvin Lau has described the Lunar New Year as a cherished occasion for family reunions and strengthening friendships.
He highlighted in a press release on Tuesday (Jan 14) its role in fostering joy among children through the tradition of receiving red packets.
“It marks a new year, a fresh blessing and symbolises a beautiful beginning,” Lau said during a red packet distribution event organised by the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kawasan Sungai Parah at SMK Chung Cheng.
The event brought early festive cheer as red packets were distributed to students while teachers and staff received mandarin oranges and beverages as a gesture of gratitude.
Lau officiated the distribution, which aimed to promote the spirit of giving and appreciation.
In his speech, he expressed his hopes that the red packets would bring blessings and inspire students to pursue excellence in their studies.
“This symbolises a fresh start and aspirations for smooth success in their examinations.”
The mandarin oranges and beverages presented to teachers were tokens of appreciation for their unwavering dedication to education and nurturing young minds.
SMK Chung Cheng principal Law Sie Yieng expressed gratitude to the committee and SUPP Bawang Assan team for organising the meaningful event.
“This initiative allows students to experience the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year in advance. We hope for continued support to enable future activities and deeper interaction with the students,” she said.
