MUKAH: Wira GP emerged the winner in the Champions of Champions Category of the traditional miniature boat race, Lumba Salui Lukut on Sunday.
Held in conjunction with the Petanak Kaul Festival 2018, the boat belonged to Robin Doh, a regular participant of the event.
First runner-up was Terkukur Emas, a boat belonging to Abdul Rahim with the second runner-up was Sinaran Permata Siska, a boat owned by Seri Muli.
In the Promising Category, the champion was Intan Permata Merah, a boat owned by Osman Mahari while in the second and third spots respectively were two boats, Nars and Saraziq Satu, belonging to Selihin Panyau.
114 boats (Salui Lukut) participated in the 5th series of the race which was organised by Petanak Gerak Pantas Sports and Recreation Club.
The winners received their prizes from the main sponsor of the race, Awang Irman Awang Salleh, in the presence of the Gerak Pantas Club Chairman, Norzelan Serun and the organising committee.
According to the organising chairman, Ahmad Castello, the objective of the race was to celebrate the village-level Kaul Festival and foster closer rapport among the participants and the villagers. “I hope this Salui Lukut race will continue to be a tourist attraction and be included in the forthcoming Mukah Kaul Festival 2018 which will be held in April,” he said.
