KUCHING: The Land Public Transport Commission (LPKP) route mapping exercise has identified a total of 468 bus stops that will support the 10 routes under the the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching initiative.
LPKP chaiman Michael Kong Feng Nian said that as part of the comprehensive preparations for the upcoming the SBST Kuching project, LPKP Sarawak has undertaken a route mapping exercise.
He added that this exercise aims to identify the necessary infrastructure along the 10 routes that SBST Kuching will serve.
“Of the 468 bus stops, 319 bus stops have been flagged as require maintenance, while an additional 49 bus stops require upgrading to meet the demands of modern public transportation infrastructure.
“Furthermore, we have emphasised the need for these bus stops to be senior citizen and OKU friendly.
“Accessibility and inclusivity remain key priorities to ensure that the SBST Kuching project benefits all segments of society,” he said this in a press statement issued today (Jan 14).
Besides, Kong said that LPKP have forwarded the findings and recommendations to the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) and have requested their assistance in collaborating with the relevant local councils to address these requirements.
“The success of SBST Kuching is contingent upon a well-maintained and inclusive public transportation infrastructure, with bus stops playing a pivotal role in this system.
“We are hopeful that the Ministry of Transport Sarawak and local councils will respond positively to these recommendations, enabling us to deliver a more efficient and accessible public transport network for Kuching.”
