MIRI: The Northern Region Council of The Boys’ Brigade once again demonstrated the strength of community spirit, exceeding its fundraising goal for the annual BB Love Box initiative.
This year, the organisation distributed 1,570 boxes, aiming to raise RM47,100.
However, from October 1 to 21, the community generously contributed RM48,609.60.
The successful campaign culminated in a closing ceremony held today (Dec 21) at Bintang Megamall.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Cr Jeffery Phang, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin commended Mirians for their overwhelming support.
“This generosity demonstrates the depth of community spirit in Miri City,” Lee said.
“The BB Love Box Project reflects the very best of humanity: compassion, kindness, and shared responsibility for one another. It reminds us that no one should be left behind in the pursuit of education and opportunity.”
He expressed gratitude to the volunteers and committee members who worked tirelessly to make the initiative a success.
“To the students who will receive these BB Love Boxes, know that this is about more than material gifts. It represents the love and support of a community that believes in you and your potential. Every item in these boxes is a step towards achieving greatness,” he added.
In support of the initiative, Lee announced a grant of RM5,000 for The Boys’ Brigade’s 2025 activities.
Also present were Rev Ngian Seng Chuo, Chaplain of the Northern Regional Council; Captain David Wong Ing Kwong, Deputy State Commissioner; and Captain Lau Kiew Hieng, Chairman of the Northern Regional Council Social Welfare and Community Services.
