MIRI: In a significant operation carried out on Friday, at approximately 7.00 pm, Sarawak Marine Police Region 5, successfully intercepted a suspected vehicle here.

According to Miri Police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the operation led by an officer and four personnel as part of Operations Taring Landai, had stopped a white and red Hino lorry on the Bekenu Road.
The dramatic stop resulted in the seizure of an impressive 4,000 litres of diesel valued at RM18,000.
The local driver, a 45-year-old man, was unable to provide any documentation from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) here, raising suspicions about the legality of the fuel he was transporting.
Alexson said the driver is facing charges under the Supply Act 1961 for failing to comply with legal regulations regarding the transportation of fuel.
Authorities have not ruled out further investigations into the source of the diesel, and whether the activity is part of a larger network of illegal fuel distribution in the region.
The police emphasise that police operations are crucial in curbing illicit trades that could potentially harm the economy and community welfare.
As the investigation unfolds, local citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity related to fuel transportation to help safeguard against illegal practices in the area.
