SIMUNJAN: Two lorries carrying a total of 1,188 logs were stopped by the police at a roadblock set up in Jalan Simunjan–Gedong here.

According to Simunjan OCPD DSP Merbin Lisa, the three-tonne vehicles were stopped last Saturday around 10.25pm for not having any relevant document or permit.

“The drivers, aged 32 and 37, were arrested. They were believed to be on their way from Pusa District to Sri Aman with the load.

“The items were taken to Simunjan District Police Headquarters (IPD) for investigation and later referred to Sarawak Forest Department,” he said in a statement.

He added that early investigation revealed that all the logs were illegally obtained for the purpose of building a private house in Serian District.

The case is being investigated under Section 95 (1) of the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.
