KUCHING: An academician hoped the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ (Malaysian Family) concept of the new government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would strengthen the bonds of love and familiness.

Dr Aila Abdul Latif, a senior lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) Faculty of Economics and Business, also hoped that the concept would instil a sense of national unity among Malaysians.

She pointed out that it was critical for everyone to unite and work together, especially in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The bonds of love and familiness can help us to rise following the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.

The Malaysian Family concept, she added, was an inclusive concept that cut across religious, ethnic, and racial boundaries.

Ismail Sabri, in his inaugural speech as the prime minister on Aug 22, invited Malaysians to set aside their differences and come together to lift the country to greater heights.

As the concept encouraged Malaysians to unite as a unified family, Aila also hoped that through the framework, all issues would be resolved with mutual respect, tolerance and progressiveness.

Instead of working in ‘silo’, it was time for the entire country to institutionalise the foundations of relationships and shared values as a society.

“The qualities of humbleness, togetherness and complementarity are the fundamental and intangible internal strengths that must be nurtured collectively,” said Aila.
