LIMBANG: An early-morning fire destroyed a 39-door longhouse in Kampung Medamit, here today (Jan 25).
A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman said firemen were alerted to the incident at 6.48am, and a team from the Limbang fire station accompanied by Nanga Medamit volunteers firefighters were despatched to the scene.
By the time they reached the scene at 7.58am, Rumah Bujang, Rantau Kiran was engulfed in flames.
“The team immediately got down to control the blaze,” the spokesman said.
The firemen encountered difficulties as there were no fire hydrant nearby.
They proceeded to use the longhouse water storage tank for their firefighting operations.
The cause of fire and losses are yet to be ascertained.
