SARIKEI: Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii recently facilitated the application for the Longhouse Loan Scheme through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to reconstruct Rumah Panjang Alen Jazo in Merudu.

As a result, the longhouse, now comprising 21 doors, has been fully reconstructed.

Huang assisted in navigating the application process for the Longhouse Loan Scheme with HDC, successfully securing funds to rebuild the ageing and dilapidated longhouse, enabling its residents to transition into their new abodes.

Moreover, Huang recently paid a visit to Angelessa Johnie Tigong longhouse in Sg Sentebu, which features 15 doors and is presently undergoing reconstruction following approval for the Longhouse Loan Scheme.

Expressing his hope for other ageing and decrepit longhouses to seek government support for reconstruction, Huang emphasized that through HDC, there exists an avenue to access loans for reconstructing longhouses.

“Old houses, even after repairs, remain susceptible to damages and necessitate annual maintenance, entailing additional costs.

“Conversely, new houses require less frequent maintenance, thereby reducing future upkeep expenses.

“The government extends these loans through HDC to enable people to own superior dwellings, elevate their quality of life, and ensure a comfortable living environment,” he remarked.

He also highlighted that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state government has allocated substantial funds for fundamental infrastructure development in Sarikei and Meradong.

“We aim to enhance living standards and better protect the welfare of the people of Sarawak,” he further added.
