MUKAH: A longhouse chief was killed in an accident involving a car and a palm oil tanker lorry at KM 112 Jalan Tatau-Sibu on Monday night.

The victim, Gaie@Maing Nyarapong from Lidong Skrang, Betong, died on the spot in the incident that occurred at about 8.00pm.

Prior to the incident, the 56-year-old, who was driving alone to Selangau from Tatau, was believed to have lost control of his Perodua Myvi while negotiating a bend along the road and slammed into the rear tyres of the tanker lorry.

Mukah District Police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau confirmed the incident and said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

He said the lorry driver, Mohammad Abdullah@Arang Balan, 50, from Rumah Balui Batu Kalo, Belaga, was unhurt in the incident.

He said the body was taken to Mukah Hospital for further action and the police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.
