KUCHING: Airfares for the festive season remain lower and controlled, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
He said that this is the result of the government’s initiative to set a ceiling price, and the commitment of airlines to increase flight capacity during the festive season.
“Providing additional capacity is not an easy task as it requires careful coordination between various parties: regulators, airlines, airport operators, and many more.
“Not to be forgotten, the front-line staff such as air traffic controllers, cabin crew, pilots, and ground handlers who make sacrifices of time and energy to ensure the smooth travel of Malaysians,” he said in a Facebook post after meeting passengers from Sabah and Sarawak at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, in a separate post, Loke said that in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the Transport Ministry continues the initiative of fixed airfares.
One-way fares for MAS and Firefly are RM319 to Sarawak and RM389 to Sabah, while one-way fares for AirAsia are RM328 to Sarawak and RM388 to Sabah.
