MIRI: Police have detained a man allegedly involved in snatching a woman’s wallet here on Tuesday.

The victim, who is in her late 30s, happens to be a police officer.

The incident took place at an eatery in Marina Park here when the victim was going to make payment at the counter on July 10.

According to the report lodged, the suspect had come out of nowhere, snatched the victim’s wallet and fled the scene.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, when met yesterday after witnessing the Kor Cadet Police parade at the headquarters here, confirmed the arrest.

He said the 23-year-old suspect was picked up by a team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led by Inspector Fredly Juing at Kampung Raan at 5.30pm.

The suspect is currently being detained at the Miri central police station (CPS) lock-up for investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code which carries up to 14 years of imprisonment with a fine or whipping, upon conviction.
